Adluh Flour Mills began in Columbia, SC around 1900. It was initially owned and operated by B.R. Crooner and family. There were several changes in ownership until June 1926, when the Allen family bought the plant. The Allen Family has operated the plant ever since.
In 1942, there were 42 operating mills in South Carolina. Today, there is only one – Adluh Flour Mills. Also, the plant is listed in the National Register of Historic Properties.
Yesterday, Coldwell Banker held One Carolina. It was a great day of speakers and workshops, with agents from North and South Carolina in attendance. It was held at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center, which is adjacent to the flour mills.
When I saw the Adluh building, it brought back fond memories. This is one of the landmarks I would see when going to or coming from the SC State Fair every October with my family.
